I went to almost all the Pokémon Centers of Japan and I couldn't find a Meowstic figure that I liked, therefore I made my own

Meow & Frands

And I think it looks pretty cool for such a smol figure (it is 7 centimeters tall, about 3 inches including the ears). I am actually impressed by the level of fine detail that got printed, I expected it to be a lot more blobby, if that makes sense. It was printed using a Multicolor material which allows to print directly in color, although I think some small touches of paint here and there could help for fine tuning and make the thing all prettied up to the max. The downside of that material is that it is very fragile so I am very careful not to break the precious thing!

Excuse the crappy photo quality of my Shitsung Galaxy Ass, I shall take decent pictures of this and my future figs once I grab a camera worthy of the name; but the real thing actually doesn't look bad at all and I shall make other tests with larger figures and/or other materials.

Thanks for reading, take care folks

Hey guys! Here's another timelapse with our beloved red bug under the spotlight.

Enjoy!

This has been around for quite a while now, but that remains a good mindset to have for struggling artists, beginners or not, or for people who doubt and need a reminder every once in a while (I know I do)

If anybody happens to know who's the actual author of this I'll be more than happy to give credit! (Edit: this is all a quote from

Depends on the type! For frame by frame animations I use OpenToonz. For the rest I usually use a mix of Clip Studio Paint and After Effects.

R-no, How did you started doing 3D modeling? did you went to a school or were you self taught? If you were self taught how did you started? I'm curious 'cause i have an interest on doing 3D modeling growning on me too, however i don't know how to get into it, If you could give some advice without taking too much of your time i'd really appreciate it, thanks

My apologies for the late answer but this is a hardly short-answered question.

Yes I am entirely self-taught about 3D (and about almost all the rest for that matter). There are basically 2 main ways to make 3D models, known as Modeling and Sculpting. They both come with advantages and disadvantages; Modeling was the first technique to show up (at least digitally) and does a great job at making both organic models (characters, muscles, clothes, etc) and hard-surface models (such as vehicles, robots and the likes) but it takes longer than Sculpting, which does an excellent job at making organic models, and an okay job at making good hard-surface models. The idea behind Digital Sculpting is really to emulate traditional sculpting techniques.

I started my journey a few years ago with some french DVD tutorial about Modeling in 3DS Max (so yeah even though I am self-taught I still have a few senpais here and there that don't even know that I exist) and made my way with it. I've basically set myself a goal to achieve and did my best to reach it with that new program I was learning; I think it's important to set a goal so that it helps to motivate oneself. My goal was a character back then, however I am not sure that I would recommend it to someone wanting to get their feet wet in a 3D environment; instead I would recommend to try doing something simpler, maybe a chair, a table or a house to give yourself time to grasp the concepts of 3D modeling. The thing is that 3D interfaces and techniques are not really intuitive and it takes a bit of time to get used to them, but after some time and practice it gets way better. Also it doesn't matter THAT much what program you use for pure modeling as the concepts remain the same from one program to another, and once you can do it in one, you can translate your knowledge and abilities to another without too much trouble. It's only pretty recently that I've decided to incorporate Sculpting in my workflow as well, so I basically use and mix techniques depending on my needs.

In terms of programs, there are many.

Modeling: Maya, 3DS Max, Cinema 4D, Blender, off the top of my head. They all have free trials and free student versions, except for Blender that is entirely free. Even though I don't really use Blender myself at this point of time, I recently stumbled upon a series of tutorial for beginners that I found pretty well documented so I'm gonna drop a link here:

www.youtube.com/watch?v=zOvawD…

Sculpting: Zbrush, Mudbox, Sculptris. Zbrush is the one I use. Sculptris is free and might be ideal for testing out if sculpting is the technique for you. Or you can use Zbrush's free trial for that too. There is also Zbrush-Core that was released recently  which is a lighter & cheaper version of Zbrush. I more than ever recommend this guy's videos for learning Zbrush as it is a huge mine of useful information:

www.youtube.com/user/Pavlovich…

Please note that Sculpting requires to have a graphic tablet.

In the end, what I'd recommend is to try each of these techniques and to stick to what works best for you. Follow tutorials to help you (there's a ton of them on the internet), use Google and Youtube when you're stuck with something you don't know how to do, and once you find your answer, take notes so you can refer to them if you run into the same problem and have forgot how to solve it (I have a shit-ton of notes in my computer). Then once you are confident with it you may try to develop your skills in the other technique as well, if you find that it might be beneficial. Depends on you again, we're all different and what works for someone doesn't necessarily work for someone else; I started with Modeling because it was easier for me and I couldn't sculpt shit to save my life, while for other people Sculpting feels much more natural. It all depends on one's personal tastes and what is enjoyable to work with. Give yourself some time too; that's a long and exciting journey ahead of you, you are going to get frustrated at times for sure but make sure not to give up as it's completely normal, and once you start getting some satisfying results you'll feel that it was all worth it. Hope that helps ^^

WOW!!! This is much more than i expected and i mean that in the most honest and sincere manner, sorry for my late reply too, i didn't had internet connection for a few weeks, hee hee.

Seriously though, your advice and information is awesome, you're quite generous for sharing all of this with me and i thank you very deeply. I'm also a very self-taught, generalist person so i know how tough it can be sometimes to learn "on your own". the information ou gave me is pretty good and i'll certanly put it to use, i might in the furute find that this isn't something i'd like to do but it doesn't hurt to try and have fun with it, watever happens, happens.

Anyway, i'll keep not of this reply, as you suggest, for future refference. Thank you again for taking the time to write this for a stranger, hee hee. People like you are very lovable, there needs to be more like that.

Hey hey, I have a question! Recently I've been trying to make myself some icons for deviantart, yet i seem to constantly lose quality when I convert them to a GIF. Is there a particular program that you use for your icons?

I get that asked a lot, yet I don't really do anything special. I use Photoshop to export an image sequence into a gif. I may need to tweak the settings a bit to fit the gif under 15kb for an icon but that's about it.
