This is a good picture here! Almost looks like the real scene in the game. I've always liked that boss, not because of the music, the characters, the scene... But 'cause I can beat it in about a minute Nice job with more of the 3D modeling Nono!
I would have expected the red colored clouds to be more reflected on him, but I really love the pose... And that determined look... Dang... It just doesn't matter what Metal Sonic has on his mind, he always look so determined
Awesome job! Loving your 3D work!
Did you really both model and rig this? I so envy your skills ;A;
Actually I thought about making the cloud reflection more red at first, I did try it too, but Metal was less apparent that way so I decided to make him popping out a bit more.
Lol yeah... always looking quite determined. Even in trouble. That's what robots do.
Yup, did this from A to Z... The rigging part is actually a little easier on robots than on organic models. Don't take me wrong, I didn't say this was pleasant either. Rigging still remains the BITCH part in any cases.
Yeah, I guess many of them do .w. Metal Sonic! Eternal boss face~
Lol! If you had said it had been pleasant then I would have to both slap your face on behalf of the riggers on my year and bow before you on behalf of my own lack of technical skills I think modeling and rigging is so technical! The animators had a week where we tried it to see what the CGs were going through so we tried to make a simpel model and rig it... It was hell for me ;A; So I have deep respect for the CGs; I wouldn't be able to do what they do. Maybe if I chose to continue working with 3D in the future, but now I think I'll just focus on becoming a good animator
Very welcome! It is always interesting to see what you ditch up with
Howly 3D epicness I didn't know you could make it sooo epic it just looks like he lives nos in reality ! I really love your 3D style soo much Nono , this is even getting better since the one you made of blaze
You know, I remember back in the day when Metal Sonic didn't look like this. Suddenly, around Sonic Rivals, they decided to add some random detail to him which was hardly noticeable, and so to distinguish the difference between "Modern Metal Sonic" and the original, they showed the version without the detail. Oh but wait. Isn't Modern Sonic tall and Classic Sonic short? (Not really). Why yes, so let's make Classic Metal look small and pudgy too. Hmm Doesn't look quite as I remember, but that's okay because he's no longer "Metal Sonic". He's "Classic Metal Sonic". :3
Actually "Classic Metal Sonic" is based on that model-sheet coming from the original game Sonic CD [link] It's actually pretty close to the model you can see in Generations, that I tried to reproduce here. Except some minor changes, as the fingers which became articulated (they more looked like badnik's back in the days, they probably changed that for animation purposes) and some proportions, about the head and the spikes. Other than these few changes I think we can say that "Classic Metal Sonic" IS pretty much the same that he was in Sonic CD.
However about the differences between Classic and Modern, I grant it to you, it took me a while to me as well to notice them actually, but there's nothing better than a comparison. [link] Everything becomes much more clearer.
I can see that, since Sonic, Tails and Robotnik are the same way.
But what I said is still true. The way he's always actually looked when I saw him was pretty much the same all the way until Sonic Rivals or something. In Heroes, SA2/SA2B, SA1, SADX, the OVA, the cover and animation of Sonic CD, all those pretty much looked the same. And half of those are 3D games. It somewhere in the middle of the Modern Era that they decided to change him a little. The thing is when they used the original design of Metal for Classic Metal in Gens, it looks like what you showed me and not what he actually looked like in all those things I listed. o0
I have no problem with your artwork. You did a good job replicating this design. I'm just saying it's funny that this isn't the design I recall actually seeing in the games. xD Well it is, but it feels more babyish is all. Same with Sonic. Feels like he's almost the same age as his own sidekick for some reason. And Robotnik feels a little more colorful and a bit BIGGER than I imagined back in the day. XD
